The Obstacle Is The Way w/Ryan Holiday

How Do You Turn Adversity Into Your Advantage?

Teaching athletes how to overcome obstacles and facing their fears is always one of the biggest hurdles that coaches tend to struggle with the most.

However, today's conversation will begin to teach you HOW to do so!

In part one of this two part series author Ryan Holiday and I discuss his recent book 'The Obstacle Is The Way' including:
  • What does the phrase 'Coach Your Best' mean to you?
  • What was the inspiration for writing this book?
  • Did you play sports growing up?
  • What do you mean by the word 'stoicism' and what does this have to do with sports?
  • What did you learn when NFL teams reached out and wanted you to come and discuss your book?
  • How can coaches do a better job of practicing objectivity? (pg 32)
  • What do you mean by phrase 'physically tight-mentally loose'?
  • What can we learn about 'steadying your nerves' from Ulysses S. Grant?
  • Why does 'will' have more to do with surrender than with strength?
  • What can coaches and athletes take away from learning about Abraham Lincoln's life?
  • Why is 'will' the toughest of all disciplines?
RYAN HOLIDAY is a strategist and writer. He dropped out of college at nineteen to apprentice under Robert Greene, author of The 48 Laws of Power, and later served as the director of marketing for American Apparel. His company, Brass Check, has advised clients like Google, TASER, and Complex, as well as many prominent bestselling authors. Holiday has written four previous books, most recently The Obstacle Is the Way, which has been translated into seventeen languages and has a cult following among NFL coaches, world-class athletes, TV personalities, political leaders, and others around the world. He lives on a small ranch outside Austin, Texas.

My goal is to be able to show up in the lives of coaches around the world every week (if not daily)! But in order to do that I need your help.

The way that iTunes determines which podcast shows get featured is by how many people download the podcast, leave reviews (key!), and also subscribe.

These podcasts are free and it usually takes me two days to prepare, record, edit, and produce each show but with your help I know I can help many others just like you!

I would be grateful if you took literally less than 60 seconds and left an honest review of the show. Click Here to Open iTunes
