The End of Average- How We Succeed In A World Of Sameness w/Todd Rose

The End of Average & The Science of Individualization w/Todd Rose

This episode of the Coach Your Best Podcast is a fantastic discussion with author Todd Rose and his new book 'The End of Average'.

In addition I also have a co-host, Coach Rett Larson, on the show to help drive the principles home from the book to the sports world for coaches and performance coaches!

During our time together we discussed the following:
  • What does Coach Your Best mean to you?
  • Why do people tend to put immediate trust into someone with the title of coach?
  • How can coaches actually coach a large group of twnety athletes and meet individual needs?
  • Give us your story and what inspired you to write this book?
  • Why is there such an habitual crave for averages? Where are coaches getting 'averages' wrong?
  • Typing Mistakes, Averages, and What You May Not Know
  • Why we are getting talent wrong!
  • Way too much faith is put in coaches when it comes to talent selection and development
  • What is the science of individualization?
  • "We now can know enough about an athlete's individuality to match good strategy.."
  • 3 Principles of the Science of Individualization
  • The role of context, personality, and individualization when coaching athletes
  • Why all babies don't learn to crawl
  • Why coaches should know the concept of 'the pace of excellence'
  • BONUS- Rett Larson and I debrief our conversation with Todd Rose
Todd Rose is the director of the Mind, Brain, and Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he leads the Laboratory for the Science of the Individual, and an associate faculty member at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. He is also the co-founder of The Center for Individual Opportunity, a non-profit organization that promotes the principles of individuality in work, school, and society. He is the author of The End of Average.

My goal is to be able to show up in the lives of coaches around the world every week (if not daily)! But in order to do that I need your help.

The way that iTunes determines which podcast shows get featured is by how many people download the podcast, leave reviews (key!), and also subscribe.

These podcasts are free and it usually takes me two days to prepare, record, edit, and produce each show but with your help I know I can help many others just like you!

I would be grateful if you took literally less than 60 seconds and left an honest review of the show. Click Here to Open iTunes
