Coaches You Should Know w/Richard LePage- Director of Performance Cirque du Soleil

From Playing Youth Hockey To Becoming An Olympic Super G Coach To Being The Performance Director For Cirque du Soleil

This episode of the Coach Your Best Podcast is about 'Coaches You Should Know'.

I have a conversation with Coach Richard LePage, Performance Director for Cirque du Soleil. Richard and I had the privilege of spending a day and a half together in Charlotte, NC this past summer and here is what all we discussed:
  • His experience hanging out with an NFL training session
  • The path of how Richard became a coach (great story!)
  • How Richard went from playing hockey to becoming a World Class Super G Coach
  • The moment when Richard realized he wanted to become a coach
  • What were some of the coaching challenges you had helping your athletes get a medal on the podium?
  • How do you connect with an elite athlete that doesn't want to have a relationship?
  • How did you transfer from being an Olympic Super G Coach to being the performance director of Cirque du Soleil?
  • What it's like to manage, coach, assess, and be responsible for over 1,500 artists and athletes
  • How do you create an 'artist specific' assessment when you have so many different shows?
  • How do you manage a healthy culture when you have artists from so many countries and they each have their own unique culture they are coming from?
  • Performance strategies for athletes who have to perform twice a day for mutliple days and up to 180 shows a year
  • Why it's so important to build relationships with the early adopters in your program
  • Why coaches should always work on gaining/earning respect from their athletes
  • How do you get a team of 60 coaches that you are responsible for to buy in to your philosophy?
  • Why the BIGGEST coaching egos are not at the top level
  • What's your PERSONAL favorite Cirque du Soleil show?
Richard LePage has 20 years of experience in high performance as a coach and program manager, has been a part of three Olympics as a coach and performance consultant, and is currently the Director of Performance for Cirque du Soleil.

He is an action sports freak with a history of wild and crazy injuries but most of all he is a proud dad when his son and daughter are happy kids having fun and smiling!

My goal is to be able to show up in the lives of coaches around the world every week (if not daily)! But in order to do that I need your help.

The way that iTunes determines which podcast shows get featured is by how many people download the podcast, leave reviews (key!), and also subscribe.

These podcasts are free and it usually takes me two days to prepare, record, edit, and produce each show but with your help I know I can help many others just like you!

I would be grateful if you took literally less than 60 seconds and left an honest review of the show. Click Here to Open iTunes
