I just received the following email regarding the passing of Tom Reilly. If you are not familiar with Tom, he is known as the grandfather of Sports Science and Football. He has published numerous papers, articles, books, etc.. and was a great mentor and friend.
>>Dear all
It is with great sadness that I inform you that Tom Reilly passed away last Friday after a long battle with cancer. Tom had been battling the disease very bravely for several years, but alas it came back with a vengeance recently and he was admitted to hospital last week with kidney failure. I am led to believe that he passed away quietly late on Friday afternoon.
Tom will of course be greatly missed by all those who he had come into contact with over the years. As one of the leading pioneers in the field of sport and exercise science, Tom's contribution to the field has been immense and he leaves a lasting legacy through his extensive body of scholarly work and his mentoring of countless graduate students and junior colleagues. Beyond his professional contribution to the field, Tom was a warm and caring individual and no doubt we will all greatly miss his humour and company at various conferences and meetings across the globe.
Tom leaves his wife and two daughters, who have been greatly comforted by all the various messages of condolences and goodwill. A funeral mass will take place in his home town of West Kirby on the Wirral next Tuesday 23rd June.
Warm regards
