It's no question that training balance and stability are necessary components for improving performance and preventing injury.  However...have we as professionals taken this concept too far?

Just about everyday I go to the gym I see someone standing on a balance disc, BOSU, stepping stone, or something similar while peforming DB bicep curls, DB OH Presses, Single Leg Squats, and a variety of other exercises claiming to improve their CORE Strength and overall strength!  But is this really improving what we claim?

Below is a fun video of some guy on a stability ball to make my point.  However, keep in mind that this is over the top on purpose:

Developing Better Balance

If you use balance training in your workout program than the following article by my good friend Dr. Paul Juris is a MUST READ!

I enjoy material like this that makes me challenge my training philosophy and methodology!  (Keep in mind that personally I rarely use these balance devices...just the ground the majority of the time!)

I hope you enjoy!
